In this video, a trail camera with a nearby mirror captured a mountain lion‘s reaction to seeing a “rival.” In fact, the other mountain lion was actually his reflection. It shows the mountain lion trying to investigate what he thinks is another mountain lion in the area. One of the interesting aspects of this video is how well it captured the footage at night. The mountain lion’s eyes are particularly piercing, both when they are seen by the camera and when they show in the mirrored reflection. Eventually, the mountain lion sits down on the edge of the mirror. He keeps a keen eye on the reflection, however. He gets back up and paws at the ground, still looking at the mirror. Amazingly, mountain lions can run up to 50 mph and jump as far as 18 feet. The mountain lion in this video looks ready to pounce, although he never does. The big cat mostly just paces back and forth in front of the mirror to keep an eye on the intruder. At one point, the mountain lion goes behind the mirror stand to see what is back there. Finding nothing, the mountain lion returns to the front of the mirror. At the end of the video, the mountain lion goes off into the woods. Next Up:
