There is one golf course, however, where no one is allowed to enter the water, no matter how many errant golf balls have been lost. At Australia’s Carbrook Golf Club there is a rather unique water hazard, unlike anything you have ever seen. The large lake near the course’s 15th hole is not only deep—it’s also filled with sharks! Carbrook Golf Club might just be the only golf course in the world with real life sharks. Fortunately, if you can’t go see this sharky phenomenon for yourself, there is a video that proves it is more than just a myth. The video opens with a golfer explaining the first time she saw the sharks at Carbrook Golf Club. Some men were feeding the sharks along the side of the lake. The woman says that one of the sharks “came up and it was just like Jaws coming up out of the water!” But where did these sharks come from, and how did they get here? The video goes on to explain that a nearby river flooded into the golf course during the 1990’s, and apparently a few small sharks got washed into the lake. Over the next few years, golfers claimed that they saw fins in the water. However, no one could really prove it for sure, so the sharks remained somewhat of an urban myth. Then in the early 2000’s someone finally caught the sharks on camera! Not only did the course have sharks in their lake, but it turns out that the sharks were thriving and even breeding. The video’s narrator explains that the sharks at Carbrook Golf Club are Bull Sharks, one of the most dangerous types of sharks in the world! Wild bull sharks are responsible for 27 fatal attacks on humans. You might think that a lake filled with dangerous bull sharks would scare people away from the golf course. Nope—just the opposite! People come from all over the world to see Australia’s famous shark-infested golf course. The video ends with a young man sitting along the bank on the edge of the lake. A few feet behind him there is a dark shark fin peeking out of the water. The man tells us that “It’s alright if you don’t get too close”. Rather than being off-putting to the golfers, the club’s shark-infestation has become quite the highlight for visitors. Of course, if you hit your ball into this lake hazard, you probably don’t want to retrieve it. Ready for more shark encounters? Check out the videos below!
